Fifty Thousand No-Bid Contract

Steinburg took $50,000 from Currituck County, set up a corporation for a brand new "basketball tournament marketing" company, and is supposed to "promote" Visit Currituck at a basketball tournament in Asheville.

What we Know

  • Wolfestein Group, LLC was formed on January 30, 2017, after Steinburg approached Currituck County about promoting the tournament in 2016
  • BS (Wolfestein Group) was paid $50,000 to promote tournament
  • So far, promotional spending includes $100 to Bangladeshi guy for Logo and about $1500 for a decal
  • This leaves about $48,400 left in the promotional budget, aka BS’s pocket
  • Since this deal, Currituck County has created ordinances limiting business contracts with elected officials representing the area
  • BS introduced two bills quid pro quo for the 50K
    • H 349 – Currituck Developer Funds Road Construction
    • H 656 – COA/Construction Funds

Conclusions: BS doesn’t care what taxpayer money goes to as long as he benefits from it

Steinburg B-Ball Tournament is a Super Hot Mess

Judging from recent emails, things are not going well for the big “Battle.” At least one official in Currituck is asking questions and wanting to see documentation of exactly what the county is getting for its money.

The Pickle Man, Gettin’ PAID. (We got mail!)

Note how casually Steinburg speaks about throwing The Outer Banks under the bus for the benefit of Asheville itself. *That’s YOUR representative at work, folks.* WHY would Currituck County award a no-bid contract worth $50,000 to a personally owned corporation, registered at his personal residence, with little-to-no experience for providing the service in question?

Steinburg’s B-ball Tourney ALREADY Violating Currituck Rules?

In order to be eligible for funding, the event must be held in Currituck County and the majority of attendees must be from outside of the County. This is not the case with the basketball tournament slated to happen in Ashville.

Drivebys Tee-Up the Steinburg Invitational

Did Currituck officials seriously think it was a good idea to grant no-bid taxpayer money to someone who has no experience in doing what they’re asking him to do? This was his rookie adventure.

Currituck Officials Circle Wagons Against Taxpayer Critique of Steinburg Invitational

Apparently, the folks in power in Currituck County are hearing from the little people about the decision to fund The Steinburg Invitational basketball tournament IN ASHEVILLE:

Steinburg: No comment on my b-ball deal. (On my opponent? SURE.)

As for Phelps, Steinburg said, “What voters need to know about Cole Phelps is he’s a tax-raiser and a gun-grabber. Just ask the NRA.” There we go. That’s the Bob we all know and, um. “love.”
